My love for pralines started when I first went to New Orleans in 2008 with my friend Dee. We visited Southern Candy Makers and got a sample of their pralines. That
was the first time I tried a praline and I fell in love. On my many trips in the future I stopped at Southern's every time. Throughout the years I tried other pralines at
various places.
I went back to New Orleans on July 2nd 2017. I got a post card that had a praline recipe on it. I got back home on July 5th and made pralines for the first time. The
average praline just has pecans, I tweaked the recipe to make it my own. I made changes to the recipe several times until it was perfect. Once I felt like I had perfected
my recipe it was time to give it a name. I wanted to name my creations after people dear to me. My first flavor is named after my mother, Dorthine. She passed away
in 2007, She loved to bake. I used to love watching her bake cakes and pies. The Dorthine Praline is made with pecans and walnuts.
I started giving out my pralines at my barber shop. People started asking me to make more so I kept making them and bringing them to my friends. My friend Beaver
told me should start selling them. I met with a food scientist, and my friend Megan, who works with the health department, and they educated me on food safety
and preparation. So with my friends encouragement and support. I told the confectionery world here I come! I created a package design and made the decision to start selling pralines. That's how McKey & Co
became what it is today.
